Statement by Tasmanian Zone Representative, Rodney Dillon

November 28, 2002

I am honoured to be the representative of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Regional Council and its chosen representative on the ATSIC Board of Commissioners.

I thank my fellow Regional Councillors for again putting their faith in me to take issues, both concerning Tasmania and the rest of Australia.

This will be my second term as zone representative*.

With support from my fellow Councillors and Commissioners on the national board, I am confident we can achieve many more positive outcomes for the Aboriginal Community.

There are still many hurdles to overcome but during my previous term as Commissioner I have learnt that Aboriginal people are beginning to be heard and understood.

I am confident our progress can continue.

*Successful candidates at the Regional Council meetings are deemed Zone Representatives until Minister Philip Ruddock approves their election. Zone Representatives are then called Commissioners.
