FORREST TO RE-NOMINATE FOR THE NATIONALS

The Nationals have opened nominations for the Federal Division of Mallee. This is the normal procedure in the lead up to a Federal election. The seat has been held by John Forrest since 1993 and a very enthusiastic Mr Forrest said he would be renominating.

“It has been a great honour to represent this important Federal Division and I am proud of many of my achievements”, Mr Forrest said.

“Most significant of all was the securing of Government capital to complete the piping of the Wimmera Mallee Stock and Domestic Water Supply system.

“Whilst there have been many other achievements such as television broadcasting in Sunraysia, the establishment of a National Water Initiative, massive injections of road and rail funding, direct funding to Local Government for roads, and a whole range of industry initiatives, there is still much unfinished business”, Mr Forrest said.

“First and foremost I wish to continue the representation to see the Wimmera Mallee system completely finished in four more years and to see some of that National Water Initiative allocated to improving existing irrigation infrastructure along the Murray River”, he said.

“I also want to stay around to ensure that the orderly marketing arrangements for the marketing of wheat are retained.

“There are huge challenges confronting horticulture, particularly dried vine fruit, wine grapes, table grapes and stone fruit and I wish to be part of Government’s positive response to tackling these challenges.

“The new threat of Managed Investment Schemes (MIS) to family farming must be addressed”, he said.

“In addition to all that I would like an opportunity to continue to offer my engineering expertise to resolving the nation’s huge water challenges.

“Though much has been achieved in meeting our aged care demands, there are still significant challenges for Swan Hill and Horsham as well as the smaller centres in between and I look forward to an opportunity to work on those”, he said.

“For these main reasons and quite a few others it is my intention to seek re-endorsement from The Nationals” Mr Forrest concluded.
