MORE EXTRA SERVICES FOR LANGFORD GRANGE Tuesday, 26 April 2005

The Hon Greg Hunt MP, Federal Member for Flinders, was delighted to announce that Cranbourne will have even more choice when entering residential aged care with the approval of new Extra Service status for 17 high care places.

Mr Hunt said, “Langford Grange at Cranbourne has received approval to offer the new services which included more choice for people entering residential aged care.

I welcome these quality services at Langford Grange and I commend them for offering their residents something additional in the level of care to those people looking for extra services.

Older Australians are increasingly expressing a desire for aged care services that meet their individual needs and choices as they age. I am pleased Langford Grange has responded to the Australian Government’s initiatives to provide choice and flexibility, under stringent guidelines, to meet the needs of older residents.

Extra Service increases diversity and choice in the aged care sector, by allowing people the option of making additional payments to receive these additional services.

It also drives innovations in residential aged care by providing an incentive to continually improve standards of care.

At the same time, the Australian Government’s national legislated accreditation system ensures all Australians have access to high quality aged care.

Extra Service status is part of the Australian Government’s vision for world class aged care that delivers high quality, affordable, accessible services to meet the individual needs of older Australians,” Mr Hunt said.

Almost 2,000 Extra Service approvals were granted by the Government in 2004, bring in to more than 9,000 the number of places with Extra Service status across Australia. The next opportunity for aged care homes to apply for Extra Service status closes on 27 May 2005, with a further two opportunities to follow this year.
