CHILD SAFETY ON FARMS

Labor congratulates the Harvey family of Cowra New South Wales on winning the Farm Safe Australia child safety on farms competition, and encourages all Australian farm families to renew their commitment to farm safety.

Workplace safety is an important issue on the factory floor, the office and especially the farm.

According to Farm Safe Australia, a child is killed every ten days as a result of a farm related incident, and more than ten children are admitted to hospital each week due to farm injuries.

Most Australian farms are homes as well as workplaces.

Farmers must be vigilant in their adherence to farm safety, especially for children in their care.

It is heartening that the Harvey family has remained focused on farm safety through the worst drought in 100 years.
