OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL ORGANISATIONS TO APPLY FOR FUNDING The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull is encouraging local community groups and

organisations to apply for funding in the latest round of the popular Volunteer Small Equipment Grant program and Local Answers initiative.

Mrs Hull said these popular programs have delivered much needed funding to organisations throughout the Riverina.

“Applications are now open for the Volunteer Small Equipment Grant and the Local Answers program. Both of these programs are part of the Nationals in Government Stronger Families and Communities Strategy and recognise the role of volunteers and community organisations in addressing local issues.

“Under the Volunteer Small Equipment Grant Program, community groups and organisations can apply for grants of up to $3000 to help purchase small equipment items that will further assist the contribution Australia’s volunteers make.

“This is a fantastic program that provides financial grants to local volunteer organisations and assists them carry out valuable work in our community,” Mrs Hull said.

“Some of the local organisations which have been successful in gaining funding under the program include Hay Amateur Swimming Club, Tarcutta Branch CWA, Ashmont Churches Caring For Children, Cootamundra Shire Council - Showground Users Committee, Leeton Tidy Towns Committee and Gundagai Little Athletics.”

Mrs Hull said the Local Answers initiative helps strengthen disadvantaged communities by funding local projects and allowing communities to develop their own solutions to local problems.

The Nationals In Government have allocated $19 million in funding for projects under the Local Answers initiative and $3 million for Volunteer Small Equipment Grants in 2005.

Applications for both programs close on Friday 4 March 2005. Application forms and guidelines are available from the Department of Family and Community Services’ website www.facs.gov.au or by calling 1800 050 044. (End)
