‘Understanding Money’ Website a Good Investment

“The Australian Government’s website to promote financial literacy has received a ‘Highly Commended’ award from Australia’s top selling Internet magazine, Australian NetGuide,” the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Peter Dutton MP, announced today.

“I am pleased that the www.understandingmoney.gov.au site has been recognised in the finance category of these awards. The website has been a great success with 300 000 people visiting the site since its launch last July,” Mr Dutton said.

Nominations for the awards come from the Australian public. Websites are then evaluated by an expert panel on their navigation, design, services and content. The website was developed by the Financial Literacy Foundation with input from a number of financial services organisations and Government departments.

“For anyone who is interested in managing their money better, the Understanding Money website is a great place to start. The website is easy to use with practical tools such as a free Budget Planner and Financial Health Check being the most popular destinations,” Mr Dutton said.

“Despite the obvious hunger for information about managing money in the community, the ALP plan to abolish funding for the Financial Literacy Foundation. This is part of their so called savings drive to meet their own exorbitant spending commitments,” Mr Dutton said.

“The ALP might want to take a few tips from the website before they go any further with their half baked ideas and lavish spending proposals.

“Cutting the funding to the Foundation shows just how desperate Labor is to find the money for their irresponsible spending rather than help ordinary Australians achieve their financial goals,” Mr Dutton said.

A free Understanding Money handbook is available for download from the website or by phoning 1800 236 235.
