Long-term forest plan will meet short-term judgement -- Brown

The Prime Minister’s long-term plan for Tasmania’s forests will get short-term judgement next Saturday, Greens Senator Bob Brown said in Hobart today.

“Both Mr Howard and Mr Latham have left till last their policies to protect Tasmania’s high conservation value forests and wildlife.

“But the impending announcements will get intense scrutiny by the Greens and, if they don’t meet the bottom line goal of environment groups, they’ll also get short shrift by voters”, Greens Senator Bob Brown said.

“I wrote to both Liberal and Labor a month ago to make it clear that whichever meets the Wilderness Society, Greenpeace and Australian Conservation Foundation’s basic criteria for saving the forests will get a public welcome from me”, Senator Brown said.
