Take ten steps for the Territory, Nigel

MEDIA RELEASE

Issued: 30 Oct 2005

Why have a coalition when they lie to you?

As the Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management Bill is debated in the House of Representatives on Monday (October 31) Labor Senator Trish Crossin has called on Dave Tollner to turn his back on the Coalition and vote against the bill.

“ Dave Tollner admitted on ABC TV’s Stateline last Friday that his coalition mates had lied to him, his party and Territorians over the NT nuclear waste dump.

“Why is Dave Tollner supporting a bill based on lies?

“The process has lacked consultation, credibility and any sense of reasoning from the start.

“Defeating this bill will ensure the Federal Government starts again and treats Territorians with the recognition they deserve.

“This bill was only introduced into Parliament less than three weeks ago.

“There has been no chance to have any in-depth analysis or questions answered about the detail since then.

“The Senate estimates inquiry on Wednesday will be the first opportunity to get any analysis of what this bill means for the Territory, yet Dave Tollner will be voting for this bill tomorrow.

“Territorians deserve strong representation, deserve to be told the facts and the truth - so why be part of a coalition that lies to you and fails to treat you seriously?” Senator Crossin said.
