CHARGES LAID AGAINST WOOMERA DETAINEES Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Amanda Vanstone, today announced the Australian Federal Police had this afternoon charged five people with various Commonwealth offences following the activities at Woomera Detention facility last weekend.

Charges include offences under the Commonwealth Crimes Act 1914 and the Commonwealth Public Order (Protection of Persons and Property) Act 1971 in relation to property damage, use of weapons and missiles, and physical violence.

An application was heard by a Magistrate this afternoon in relation to the five persons charged. Those five persons were remanded in custody to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

Australian Federal Police have advised they anticipate laying charges against other people within the next week.
