Proposed State Aquatic Centre at Marion

Commenting on the Budget outcome for the proposed State Aquatic Centre project at Marion, the Federal Member for Boothby, Dr Andrew Southcott, said:

“This was the council’s first application for funding from the Federal Budget. This is only round one. I will continue to lobby my Canberra colleagues to back this project.

“It needs to be remembered that this proposal was put up by State and Local Government and they normally fund these kinds of projects.

“I therefore call on the State Government to lock in their funding. They can’t keep have a bet each way. If they are serious, they should put their money on the table.

“Last year, the Commonwealth approved $10 million towards the upgrade of the Mount Panorama racetrack, in a combined State and Local Governments project. The announcement came after four years’ lobbying and after the State Government had promised to put forward $10 million.

“The proposed State Aquatic Centre at Marion is an important project for jobs and investment in our area. I am committed to continuing to work with the council to gain additional Commonwealth support.”
