The Hon Syd Stirling, MLA The Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP

Northern Territory University The Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training Dr Brendan Nelson and Northern Territory Minister for Employment, Education and Training Syd Stirling have held discussions on the future of the Northern Territory University.

Dr Nelson was invited to the Territory by Mr Stirling.

Dr Nelson said. "I am pleased to have had this opportunity to discuss first-hand with my Territory counterpart, the University leadership and other parties the issues confronting NTU."

"The Commonwealth is in full agreement with the NT Government in believing that the health of the NTU is vitally important to the Territory and indeed the nation."

Mr Stirling said, "There are obviously serious challenges confronting the NTU and the Territory is committed to working cooperatively with the Commonwealth to ensure the university becomes one of the best in the region."
