Buloke Biolink Project a Winner

The Buloke Shire has come out a winner as a result of the recently completed Buloke Biolink Green Corp project, John Forrest, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee said today. He added his congratulations to the team of five from the Green Corp team who received Graduation Certificates.

“In all the team planted 31,600 trees and shrubs, constructed 9km of fencing, 1km of walking tracks and nesting boxes. In additional they also gained experience in seed collection.”

“Green Corps is a great voluntary program which helps young Australians to engage in valuable environmental work while providing them with the opportunity to conserve, preserve and restore Australia’s natural environment and cultural heritage.”

“The program provides quality training and experience through structures and supervised natural environment conservation. Local man Jack Coffey, Team Leader for this project has done an outstanding job leading these fine young people.”

“Out of the six Green Corp team involved with this project, one received alternative employment early in the project, a further two have recently obtained work and another has decided to study Natural Resource Management. This is a wonderful outcome and demonstrates that there are other long term benefits for the participants besides the sense of achievement that comes with being involved in this type of project,” said Mr Forrest.

I encourage all local young people who have any interest in the environment to investigate joining Green Corps for a six-month placement, which includes accredited training and an allowance. More information can be found on the Green Corps website at www.greencorps.com.au or by ringing the hotline on 1800 077 700.
