Media Release The Hon David Hawker MP Speaker of the House of Representatives Federal Member for Wannon

29 August 2005

Member for Wannon, David Hawker, is encouraging local community organisations to apply for a share in up to $20 million to identify and develop local solutions to local issues.

The funding is part of round three of the Australian Government’s highly successful Local Answers initiative.

“The Local Answers initiative helps strengthen disadvantaged communities by funding local, small-scale, time limited projects,” Mr Hawker said.

“Earlier this year projects in Stawell and Ararat received over $76,000 to help build better parenting and relationship skills, support mentoring and leadership programs and encourage access to training and education for young parents.

“This funding ensures our local organisations remain strong and viable by providing the necessary services for our community. I encourage all community organisations in Western Vistoria to apply for funding,” he said.

Applications for Local Answers Round Three close 5pm, Friday 23 September 2005.

Application forms and Guidelines are available from the Department of Family and Community Services’ website or by calling the Local Answers Round Three toll free hotline: 1800 050 044.

Indigenous applicants may also contact the Local Answers Indigenous toll free number 1800 625 136.
