The Minister for Customs and Consumer Affairs, Warren Truss, has commended Sydney Customs officers on their diligence after officers discovered what they believe to be a quantity of growth hormones which were contained in the baggage of a member of the Chinese swimming team.

Officers contacted the Minister earlier today to advise him of the suspected find.

The Customs officers, during inspection of the baggage of a member of the Chinese swimming team, found a thermos flask containing 13 vials of liquid which had not been delared to Customs. They immediately seized what they suspected to be growth hormones.

The suspected hormones will be analysed in order to establish their exact composition.

Growth hormones are a prohibited import unless prior permission is granted by the Department of Health.

“This find is a demonstration of the commitment, efficiency and effectiveness of Australia’s Customs Service and its officers,” Mr Truss said.
