SA COMPANIES HIGHLIGHT INNOVATION TALENT AT GALA NIGHT

Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, last night launched a showcase of 15 South Australian businesses demonstrating cutting-edge innovation projects supported by business programs delivered by AusIndustry.

Senator Carr congratulated the South Australian businesses, some of which were exhibitors featured at the gala Innovation Australia's Showcasing Innovation in South Australia event, held at South Australia’s Festival Centre.

“Australia has an honour roll of great inventions going back to the 1950s, which include the black box flight recorder, Hills Hoist, car baby capsule and the cochlear ear implant, all of which started just as an idea on a drawing board,” Senator Carr said.

“The Australian Government recognises the importance of innovation because successful outcomes help boost Australia’s international reputation for innovation and smart ideas.

"With support from the Australian Government these companies have been able to develop and commercialise their inventions which benefit all Australians.

“These innovations include a project to develop magnesium-casting technology to manufacture light-weight automotive products, a company that is one of the top five cinema loudspeaker producers in the world, and underground vision technology that is sought after in the mining industry."

Innovation Australia is an independent body of experts responsible for assisting the Australian Government's support of innovation, and members of the board, drawn from industry and academia, are recognised as leaders in their field of expertise.

AusIndustry delivers a range of more than 35 business programs - including innovation grants, tax and duty concessions, small business skills development, industry support and venture capital - worth about $2 billion to more than 10,000 businesses, and 60,000 individuals every year.
