YOUNG AMBASSADORS PROMOTE LOCAL TOURISM ON QUEEN’S BATTON RELAY

As Commonwealth Games fever hits North Western Victoria with the arrival of the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) today, Tourism Australia, as a major partner in the relay is encouraging Australian’s to get out and holiday in their own country.

John Forrest, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee said that the Queen’s Baton Relay is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all that we have to offer domestic and international tourists.

“Our Young Ambassador will be Alana Young from Darwin in the Northern Territory,” advised Mr Forrest.

Alana said she was very excited to be visiting the region representing Tourism Australia. “I am encouraging everyone I meet to get out there and take their next holiday here in Australia,” said Alana.

As Tourism sponsor of the Queen’s Baton Relay, Tourism Australia has selected nine Young Tourism Ambassadors, tourism professionals between the ages of 18-25 to run with the Baton and speak at the evening celebrations in each city and town that the Baton visits.

“The Queen’s Baton Relay is a fantastic opportunity to see some of the amazing places that Australia has to offer and meet some great local people,” Alana Young said.

“I’ve come over from Darwin in the Northern Territory to invite you to come and visit my home town and use this invitation as a spur to encourage more people to visit some of the fantastic places that we’ve been able to visit, particularly the likes of Mildura, Swan Hill and Horsham where the QBR stays overnight.”

Mr Forrest said that Tourism is a very important industry in Northern Victoria, generating jobs and economic opportunities for local people and our wider community.

The world’s longest and most inclusive relay will spend the next few weeks travelling around Australia, arriving in Mallee electorate at Mildura on February 16, then through various townships and onto Swan Hill for the evening of February 17 with the QBR visiting Horsham on March 6.

“I am looking forward to experiencing the Queen’s Baton Relay in person during its journey through the electorate,” said Mr Forrest.
