A129/2001 12th September 2001

The Federal Government is disappointed by Qantas’s decision today, but understands it must act responsibly on behalf of its shareholders, said the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson.

Top level negotiations are continuing with all parties as the Air New Zealand board heads towards its disclosure of its financial position in New Zealand tomorrow.

The Australian Government’s priorities in these discussions remain the preservation of as many Ansett jobs as possible, the travelling public, regional routes and the livelihoods of other such as small businesses dependent upon Ansett.
