Tribute To Break O'Day Mayor Stephen Salter

Monday, 8 May 2006

Senator Guy Barnett today paid tribute to Break O'Day Council Mayor Stephen Salter who sadly died suddenly from a long illness.

"I was proud to work with Stephen on issues affecting his region and in other fields such as his membership of the Road Black Spot Consultative Panel of which I am chairman," Senator Barnett said.

"His experience as a State Liberal MHA in the Gray Government during the early 1980s and his considerable municipal experience equipped him with the knowledge and skills to stand up for his region, whether it be proposals for a coal fired power station at Fingal in the 1980s, to present day issues such as the proposed East Coast Marine Park Reserves.

"In every case Stephen was a fierce advocate for the East Coast, and he will be sadly missed.

"Personally I have lost a good friend and I will miss him greatly," Senator Barnett said.
