LAST CHANCE FOR YOUNG RURAL LEADERS’ COURSE

Tuesday, 13 December 2005

Time is running out for young people involved in rural industries to apply for the Australian Government’s 2006 Young Rural Leaders’ Course.

Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales Senator Fiona Nash today reminded 18 to 35-year-olds working in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food or related industries that the application deadline for the week-long course closes this Friday.

“The Young Rural Leaders’ Course is aimed at providing participants with the tools they need to become effective and influential rural leaders of tomorrow,” Senator Nash said.

“The 2006 course will be the sixth of its kind, training participants in areas like communication, leadership and planning. Those taking part will also hear talks from experts from various agricultural industries and will have the opportunity to network with senior Government members and other industry stakeholders.”

Senator Nash said 240 people have undertaken the course since it began in 2001 with 30 places available for next year’s course.

“Those that have completed the course learn how to engage with their peers, with industry and with Government. Participants leave the course with a heightened understanding of the issues facing rural and regional Australia and how they can be

most effective in steering growth and change.

“Young people who are passionate and committed to a sustainable and profitable rural and regional Australia are vital for the continued growth and prosperity of the country and I urge young people eligible for the course to put their hand up and take the next step towards leading their industry into the future.”

Applications for the Young Rural Leaders’ Course close Friday 16 December 2005.
