Press Release Ref: 915 Published: 15/3/2003 Title: Nairn attends Fiona Lodge Beach House opening

The dream to create a beach house retreat for families of people suffering a serious illness has finally come to fruition.

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, helped to officially open the Fiona Lodge Ronald McDonald Beach House today.

The facility was inspired by and named after Fiona Art, who died of cystic fibrosis.

Eurobodalla Shire Mayor, Pam Green, Bay of Dreams committee Chair, Jim Johns and McDonalds CEO, Guy Russo, were also on hand for the occasion.

Mr Nairn used the opening to congratulate everyone involved in making Fiona Lodge a reality.

“So many people have played a role in getting Fiona Lodge to this stage in the past four years,” he said.

“I’m sure the community is extremely proud of what has been achieved with major fundraising success because of generous donations.”

“I’ve attended a number of those fundraisers and the generosity of local people was almost overwhelming.

Mr Nairn also singled out the late Des Phillips, Rachael Sweeney-Johns and Jim Johns who called the original meeting and formed the Bay Of Dreams committee.

“Caring for a loved one suffering from a serious illness can often be exhausting work.

“Fiona Lodge will give carers a wonderful place to take a well-earned break to recharge.”
