SCOTT WELCOMES EXTRA MONEY FOR CUNNINGHAM HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS

Work is about to start on the next phase of the Federal Government’s plan to upgrade the Cunningham Highway progressively between the Eight Mile intersection and Cunninghams Gap, the Federal Member for Maranoa, Bruce Scott, announced today.

Mr Scott welcomed news that a $1.6 million contract for the work west of Gladfield had been awarded to Stockport (NQ) Pty Ltd.

“This project includes pavement repairs, culvert extensions, surface correction and overlay work on a five-kilometre section of highway, five kilometres east of the Eight Mile intersection,’’ Mr Scott said.

He confirmed that work would start this month for completion well before Christmas.

Mr Scott said two previous widening and overlay projects had resulted in considerable improvement to the Cunningham Highway. Further projects were being planned nearby.

Meanwhile, Mr Scott said State and Commonwealth officials had met recently on site at the Eight Mile intersection. Following the meeting Main Roads Queensland had agreed to review plans for upgrading the intersection.

“I am sure many in the Warwick district will be pleased that this matter is being progressed and that modified plans in keeping with National Highway objectives will be completed soon,” Mr Scott said.
