Lines to AAP - Beazley wrong direction on uranium mining

Democrats Leader, Lyn Allison said the ALP's support for the massive expansion of uranium mining at Roxby Downs had anyway made a mockery of its three-mine policy.

"Mr Beazley should tell us which new mines he wants to see opened up and where he stands on uranium mining at Jabiluka. Will he join Mr Howard in plugging for uranium enrichment, nuclear power and turning Australia into an international waste dump?"

"There are no terms and conditions that will guarantee Australia's uranium does not end up in armaments and it will certainly all end up a waste problem somewhere for hundreds of thousands of years."

"My advice to Mr Beazley is focus on fixing the mess already made by uranium mining and give notice that you will close down this dangerous industry."
