PASSPORTS REPLACED FOR FREE IN KATHERINE

 

Katherine residents who had their passports destroyed by flooding will not have to pay for replacements, CLP Sena tor Grant Tambling said today.

 

"Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer responded to a representation I made on behalf of Katherine residents and has agreed to waive the cost of replacing ruined passports," Senator Tambling said.

 

Senator Tambling said Mr Downer said he "appreciated the difficulties facing the residents of Katherine as they endeavour to build new lives following this disaster" and felt "the removal of the worry of the cost of a new passport will be of some small assistance".

 

Senator Tambling said prior to the issue of replacement passports, applicants would need to complete the usual procedures for replacing a damaged or lost passports.

 

"Their new passports will be valid for the same period as those damaged or lost," he said.

 

"Katherine residents wishing to replace passports damaged or lost in the flood should telephone the Department of Foreign Affairs in Darwin on 89824199".
