$3,800 GRANT TO REFURBISH THE RAINBOW WAR MEMORIAL

The Rainbow RSL Sub-branch will refurbish the Rainbow War Memorial with the help of a $3,800 grant under the Federal Government's commemorations programme, Saluting Their Service.

The Member for Mallee John Forrest said Saluting Their Service encourages the community to remember and honour the contribution made by Australians who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations since Federation.

Mr Forrest, "The Sub-branch will use the funding to restore the memorial to its former glory. A thorough cleaning will polish up the memorial and the lettering will undergo repainting.

"The memorial is Rainbow's most significant monument and is the main community focus for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services", Mr Forrest said.

The Government is encouraging communities around the country to restore their memorials or to build new ones, where none exists.

This project will provide a fitting tribute to the sacrifice and service of the district's service men and women.

"The Rainbow RSL Sub-branch is to be congratulated on its initiative and I am pleased the Minister has been able to lend the Government's support", Mr Forrest said.

More information about Saluting Their Service and grant application forms are available by contacting the office of Mr Forrest on 1300 131 620.
