ALAN GRIFFIN MP Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs 3 November 2005 SEARCH FOR THE MISSING AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS IN VIETNAM I congratulate the dedicated efforts of Mr Jim Bourke and his team in their work to repatriate the remains of Australian soldiers listed as missing in action in Vietnam. I welcome the Minister’s statements of support and urge her and the Department to consider the report from Mr Bourke on the possible location of the graves of Lance-Cpl Richard Parker and Private Peter Gillson as quickly as possible. If this report provides sound information, I would encourage the Minister to immediately begin all appropriate preparations with the Vietnamese Government and other agencies for a thorough search to be carried out. It must be said that it is too early to raise the hopes and expectations of family member’s of the missing soldiers. I would sincerely wish, however, for a successful outcome that may bring some solace to the families and allow for a befitting interment of Australian solders who gave their lives in the service of their country.
