FALCON PRIMARY STUDENTS TO FOCUS ON ATTENDANCE WITH $1095 GRANT Wednesday, 17 August 2005

Indigenous students at Falcon Primary School will focus on lifting their attendance rates with an Australian Government grant of $1,095 Federal Member for Canning Don Randall said today.

The funding has been awarded under the Australian Government’s Whole of School Intervention Strategy for the Attendance Rewards, Leadership Program and Parent Caregiver Workshop Project.

The project will reward consistently high attendance amongst indigenous students while older students at Falcon Primary will be encouraged to participate in a leadership program that will focus on attendance and leadership skill building.

The project also aims to encourage and support parents and caregivers to attend workshops that focus on ways to support stronger literacy development.

“The 12 students involved in this program must achieve a 90 per cent attendance rate during the 2005 second semester to qualify for their reward,” said Mr Randall.

“During this project it is anticipated that a strong working relationship will be developed between parents/caregivers and Falcon Primary School, which will be enormously beneficial to the educational success of these students.

Projects are selected on the basis that applicants can demonstrate that parents, communities and schools have participated in the development of the project and will continue to be involved during the implementation and evaluation of the project.

Support from the Indigenous community is an important indication of the success of a project.

“I wish the staff, students and parents/caregivers involved in this project every success in achieving their set objectives.”
