2002 WALK FOR RECONCILIATION Federal Member for Chifley, Roger Price MP has extended an invitation for everyone to join in the Mt Druitt Community Walk and Gathering for Reconciliation.

The 5th Annual Walk commences at 11.30 am on Saturday 7 December 2002. People interested in walking should gather at 11:00am behind Westfield Marketown (between the shopping centre and the library).

“I urge everyone to join in and support the 2002 Walk and Gathering for Reconciliation - not only will we be sending a strong message to all Australians, but it’s also a fun day out for the whole family”, Mr Price said.

“There will be local entertainment on the day”, he said.

The day will be showcasing local indigenous and non-indigenous performers. A highlight will be the dancer, Imran Akhbar performing the peacock dance which is rarely performed in Australia. Civil Rights Activist, Roy Carroll who rode the freedom rights bus with Charles Perkins in the 1960s will be the main speaker.

Sir William Deane, the former Governor-General has again sent a message to the people of Mt Druitt, encouraging people to “work even harder for reconciliation at the grass roots level”.

Mr Price said that the event attracted broad support from across the community and that the Australians for Reconciliation Chifley Committee aimed to build on that to increase understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians (whatever their place of origin).
