Media Release 9 February 2005

2005 NEW APPRENTICE EMPLOYER AWARDS The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull is encouraging nominations for the 2005 Minister’s Awards for Excellence - Employers of New Apprentices.

“These awards are an opportunity for local employers to be recognised for their contribution to the training of New Apprentices,” Mrs Hull said.

“We have many employers throughout the region that employ New Apprentices and give them the experience needed to pursue a career in their respective industry.

“About 70 per cent of young people don’t go to university directly from school. Many of these young people undertake a New Apprenticeship carrying out a valuable role in their community.

“Employers of New Apprentices deserve to be acknowledged for their contribution. Without their support, many young people would not have the opportunity to learn a trade.

“I have been advocating for greater recognition of New Apprenticeships since I was elected and am pleased to see the Australian Government recognising the efforts of employers who contribute to the learning process.”

Nominations close on the 18 March 2005. More information and an application form are available from www.newapprenticeships.gov.au or by calling 1800 639 629.
