GRANTS FOR LOCAL SCHOOL LIBRARIES

The electorate of Paterson will receive approximately $64,800 for local school libraries, to help schools build up stocks of books by Australian authors or books which have been published in Australia.

The Federal Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin, said since 2001, the Commonwealth has been making grants to Australian primary schools under the Grants to Primary School Libraries Program to help them build up their stocks of books by Australian authors or books which have been published in Australia.

Between 2001 and 2004, the Commonwealth will provide some $45 million to Australian primary schools under this program.

All Australian primary schools are provided with funding based on the number of primary school students enrolled at that school in the prior year.

These funds can be used by schools to purchase printed, audio, braille and e-books by Australian authors or produced in Australia.
