HOWARD REFUSES TO COME CLEAN ON $600 PAYMENT FOR 2ND DAY IN A ROW

20 Sept 20 04

Mr Howard was asked six times on radio this morning why, last year, he opposed the $600 lump sum to address family payment debt. He could only repeat: “We brought it in.”

Mr Howard consistently failed to answer why he opposed the payment in the first place, although a leaked Department of Finance Cabinet document reveals his opposition to the payment late last year.

Mr Howard has form about giving with one hand, and taking with the other - the $1000 debt waiver at election time in 2001, which he clawed back the next year.

In three years he’s allowed 1.4 million families to cop debts worth an average of $900.

He is using the $600 lump sum to patch up the system during an election campaign, but will claw it back afterwards.

His refusal to answer this question for the second day in a row only proves he is hiding the truth from Australian families.
