Minimal Campaign - Andren

The major parties can expect to receive public funding well in excess of $40 million dollars between them at this year’s election, according to Independent Candidate for Calare, Peter Andren.

“This is more than enough for any campaign, and there should be no reason for the millions of dollars of donations the Coalition and Labor will also seek from big business and the unions,” Mr Andren said.

“Despite the big budgets of the major parties, I hope I have shown how a grassroots campaign, relying on minimal spending and maximum supporter involvement, is the most effective way of campaigning.

“As in 2001 I will be donating any public funding in excess of my campaign costs to worthy causes within our electorate. This amounted to $12,000 in 2001 and obviously I’d like to increase that amount this time round.

“I will be opening a main campaign office at 312 Summer Street, Orange and another at 119 Kendal Street, Cowra. I intend to keep my electorate duties as separate as possible from the campaign and staff will be on duty at the Bathurst electorate office until the election.

“My staff and I will be able to handle any normal inquiries through my Bathurst electorate office throughout the campaign period, and government agencies also operate as per normal.

“I hope we see a positive campaign in Calare electorate, and I look forward to continued strong support from local voters.

“I’ve served our electorate to the best of my ability for the past three terms and trust my constituents will give me a vote of confidence for another three years.

“However I am certainly not taking anything for granted,” Mr Andren said.
