Hartsuyker welcomes awarding of tender for Bonville Deviation

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, has welcomed the awarding of a preferred tender for the Bonville Deviation upgrade.

NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal and Federal Roads Minister Roads Minister Jim Lloyd will today announce that Abigroup Contractors has been selected as preferred tenderer for the Bonville Deviation.

Mr Hartsuyker welcomed the announcement, saying Mr Roozendaal had highlighted the poor management of previous Minister Slow Joe Tripodi.

“The announcement of this tender has come months ahead of Slow Joe’s proposed date for awarding the tender.

“I am delighted that Minister Roozendaal has heeded my calls to get tenders let as quickly as possible.

“The way is now clear for work on the Bonville Deviation to commence.

Mr Hartsuyker said the Federal Government offered the NSW Government an $30 million advance to allow work to commence this financial year.

“I know this announcement will be welcomed by all Coffs Coast road users so that this dangerous section may be bypassed as quickly as possible.

“Early commencement of the project potentially means lives saved.

‘I would like to thank the residents of the Coffs Coast who strongly supported me in the campaign to get the NSW Government to award the tender as soon as possible.”

PREFERRED TENDER FOR BONVILLE ANNOUNCED

The preferred tender for the Bonville Upgrade of the Pacific Highway has been announced ahead of schedule.

Federal Roads Minister Jim Lloyd and NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal today announced that Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd has been selected as the preferred tenderer for the Bonville Upgrade project.

“The contract is to upgrade 9.6 kilometre of the Pacific Highway between Perrys Road and Lyons Road. This will link the jointly funded Raleigh Deviation in the south with the completed Lyons Road to Englands Road section in the north,” Mr Lloyd said.

“This important project will provide significant benefits to road users, including improved safety and reduced travel times.

“To date, $15 million has been spent on the Bonville upgrade, including project development, geotechnical investigations, an environmental impact statement and property acquisition.”

The contract will include: É Detailed design of the project, including road and bridge design, structural and drainage design, landscaping, and urban design. É Construction of about 10 kilometres of dual carriageway on the Pacific Highway, including

the construction of twin bridges across Bonville, Reedys and Pine creeks; É Maintenance for a 10-year period; É Environmental management, including the provision of a fauna overpass in the Bongil Bongil National Park and community consultation.

“When finished, the Bonville upgrade will complete 17.5 kilometres of dual carriageway between Coffs Harbour and Urunga,” Mr Roozendaal said.

“Announcing the preferred tenderer means that contracts between the RTA and Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd can be finalised, allowing a start on construction. A date for the start of construction will be announced in the coming months.”

The Bonville upgrade is jointly funded by the Federal and NSW Governments. It is one of the first projects being funded under the $960 million being provided by the two governments for further upgrading of the Pacific Highway over the next three years.

Since the two governments agreed to cooperate on upgrading the Pacific Highway 10 years ago, 45 projects have been completed and more than 233 kilometres of dual carriageway are now open to traffic.
