The Hon Bob Baldwin MP Federal Member for Paterson 2 June 2009

ADF SCHOLARSHIPS NOW AVALIABLE

Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin MP, is encouraging Year 11 and 12 students from across the Paterson electorate to consider applying for the 2010 Defence Technical Scholarships.

“Nominations opened today for 1500 scholarships for Year 11 and 12 students across the country, with successful students eligible to receive up to $2000 to assist them with their studies,” said Mr Baldwin.

“As part of the selection process, students who apply for a Defence Technical Scholarship will be asked to demonstrate their interest in pursuing an ADF technical trade career. This is also a great opportunity for students to hone their interview skills, in preparation for the years to come,” said Mr Baldwin.

“Scholarship recipients are under no obligation to join the ADF on completion of their study. However, successful applicants will be invited to participate in a variety of Defence experiences, events and visits during their scholarship year to highlight the many opportunities available to them on completion of a trade qualification.

“Australia is experiencing a shortage of skilled technical tradespeople across all areas of industry and the Australian Defence Force is no exception. The Defence Technical Scholarship highlights to students the importance Defence places on technical trades and possible career paths available to them, at the conclusion of their study.

“To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must be studying mathematics and a relevant vocational or technical subject. If you would like further information regarding the Scholarships including the eligibility criteria please contact my office or log on to the Defence jobs home page www.defencejobs.gov.au/DTS,” Mr Baldwin said.

Applications for the 2010 Defence Technical Scholarships close on 14 August 2009 for all States and Territories.
