Bridge in Belhus to receive major upgrade

 $2.05 million upgrade on the way for ageing Swan Valley Bridge over Ellen Brook  Upgrade to extend lifespan of crossing used by an average of 14,000 vehicles a day  Project funded by Australian and Western Australian governments and City of Swan

Works are now underway to upgrade an age *]*v*P****Ã¥*]***P****}*v*t***ê*ö*^*¡***v*Z*}******}*¿***Ã¥***o*o***v***Ã¥*}*}*l*U**]*v*****o*Z*µ*ê**]*v*W***Ã¥*ö*Z*[*ê* north-east.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Barnaby Joyce said the Australian Government would provide $1.26 million to the $2.05 million upgrade, comprising $800,000 from the Roads to Recovery Program and $460,000 from Financial Assistance Grants.

*^ This project proves the value of our Roads to Recovery program, which is providing a significant portion of the *(*µ*v***]*v*P**(*}*Ã¥**ö*Z*]*ê**â*Ã¥*}*i*****ö*X*****Ã¥*o*«**¡*}*Ã¥*l*ê****Ã¥******o*Ã¥*******«**µ*v*****Ã¥*¡***«****v****¡***[*Ã¥****o*}*}*l*]*v*P**(*}*Ã¥*¡***Ã¥****ö*}**ê*****]*v*P**ö*Z****v***¡****Ã¥*]***P*** *ö***l****ê*Z***â***U*_*D*Ã¥*:*}*«******ê***]***X

Western Australian Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said the bridge over Ellen Brook was built in 1959.

*^ These improvements will significantly increase the overall lifespan of this structure, which is used by an average of 14,000 vehicles per day*U*_* Ms Saffioti said.

Federal Member for Pearce Christian Porter said drivers would welcome the upgrade of the bridge and could expect to see plenty of activity on site.

*^d*Z***ê****¡*}*Ã¥*l*ê****Ã¥****P*}*]*v*P**ö*}* involve replacing existing traffic barriers, bridge beams and piles, reinforcing the ***∆*]*ê*ö*]*v*P****Ã¥*]***P**********l*U****v******}*v*ê*ö*Ã¥*µ***ö*]*v*P**Ã¥***ö***]*v*]*v*P**¡***o*o*ê****v******u*****v*l*u***v*ö*ê*U*_*D*Ã¥ Porter said.

West Swan Road is now temporarily closed between Gnangara Road and Millhouse Road for approximately 12 weeks to allow major construction to get underway.

The upgrade is funded by the Australian Government ($1.26 million), Western Australian Government ($430,000) and City of Swan ($360,000).
