Australia encourages Fiji to join PACER Plus

Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon. Keith Pitt MP, today in Brisbane encouraged Fiji to join the PACER Plus Agreement - a landmark trade and development agreement signed by Australia and nine other Pacific Islands Forum countries in Tonga last month.

Assistant Minister Pitt met with Fiji’s Minister for Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources, the Hon. Faiyaz Koya MP, and Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, the Hon. Inia Seruiratu MP, and emphasised that the Agreement remains open for signature.

"Fiji has much to gain from PACER Plus, which will increase the flow of goods and investment in the region,” Assistant Minister Pitt said.

The three ministers also discussed building capacity in Fiji’s agriculture sector, providing opportunities for Australian business, and a range of important bilateral and regional trade issues.

Minister Koya and Minister Seruiratu are currently visiting Brisbane with Fiji’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama MP, to attend a Fiji Trade and Investment Symposium on 20 July.

The symposium will promote further business, trade and investment ties with Fiji.
