Greenpeace vision shows coal obsession is killing the Reef

The old parties coal obsession is driven by the millions they receive in fossil fuel industry donations, and it is killing our Great Barrier Reef.

“The Reef is the greatest living organism on earth, it can be seen from space. Yet footage released by Greenpeace today shows signs it is heading for another disastrous coral bleaching event caused by coal-fuelled global warming”, says Australian Greens Leader Dr Richard Di Natale.

“The deadly Adani mine, which the Coalition want to gift a billion dollars of taxpayers money, will cause more coral bleaching and deny our children the chance to experience the remarkable natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

“Both Labor and the Liberals have allowed their policies to be tainted by fossil fuel donations. They are barracking for Adani because they’re looking out for their big donor mates in the fossil fuel industry.

“That is why we see the Treasurer waving around lumps of coal in Parliament, and why both old parties collude to cut renewable energy investment, while fossil fuel pollution keeps rising.

“The reef if precious, it can never be replaced. Yet the actions of these old parties, risk losing it forever. Our children and grandchildren will never see the wonder that is the Great Barrier Reef if we don't act now.

“Renewable Energy, not coal will create the healthy long-term future our reef and our community are crying out for. We need a government which prioritises urgent action on global warming above their own self-interest”.
