LOCAL VETERANS TO BENEFIT FROM NEW GRANTS

MID-North Coast veterans who are socially isolated or need help with living skills are to benefit from two new Federal Government grants worth almost $20,000, Independent MP for Lyne Robert Oakeshott said today.

Mr Oakeshott said the funding was being provided through the Veteran and Community Grants program.

“The first of these grants will support veterans from Taree through to Kempsey, with the Hastings Manning Macleay Veterans Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Association being awarded $7530 to run a ‘Cooking for One or Two’ program.

“The RAAF Association Port Macquarie branch has also received $10,595 to help reduce social isolation by providing a series of bus trips.

“Both projects will make an important contribution to promoting healthy lifestyles for local veterans, as well as helping veterans to live independently at home and supporting their carers,” Mr Oakeshott said.
