Tribute to Graeme Beams Friday, 21 January 2011 09:56

Launceston and the Tamar River lost a passionate and dedicated servant with the passing of

Graeme Beams.

As a former civic leader and City elder, Graeme Beams promoted the City and its river with a

sincere and folksy touch combined with fierce determination which delivered genuine results.

Former Prime Minister John Howard s office knew of Graeme Beams well.

As late as the August election campaign Graeme fronted Tony Abbott about the needs of the

Tamar and Launceston at a public BBQ. He never tired advocating for his beloved City.

Personally Graeme was of great assistance to me introducing me to people from all walks of

live who needed assistance in the Federal sphere.

Alison Andrews summary of Graeme in the Examiner as one of the City s most enthusiastic

ambassadors was spot on.

His dedication, passion and love for his representative role should serve as a beacon for all

involved or aspiring to public life.
