SENATOR GARY HUMPHRIES Liberal Senator for the Australian Capital Territory Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Shadow Attorney-General Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Materiel

Prime Minister Julia Gillard should focus on strong economic management for the flood recovery rather than imposing another great big new tax.

Labor are currently considering yet another tax to help pay for the flood crisis instead of taking the tough decisions.

"While it is important that we do everything we can to support flood-affected parts of Australia, another tax is not the answer," Senator Gary Humphries said today.

"Labor want to introduce a Carbon Tax, a Mining Tax and now a Flood Tax all at the same time - I think Australians have suffered enough.

"This is a government renowned for waste and mismanagement.

“If they didn't bungle Pink Batts, Green Loans and School Halls, there would be more than enough money in the kitty to deal with the costs of this crisis.

"The best way that we can support Queensland is by having a strong economy with a strong surplus that could be deployed at times of national crisis.

"That is exactly what the Coalition left Labor, but Labor spent it all - and went into debt - within 2 years," Senator Humphries concluded.
