The Hon Martin Ferguson MP, Minister for Tourism and Catherine King, the Member for Ballarat, have announced Budget funding of $500,000 for the restoration of the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour and $450,000 for the construction of the Creswick Interpretive Centre.

Minister Ferguson said: "This funding for Bacchus Marsh will help the local veteran community restore what was once one of Victoria’s finest avenues, preserve local history, and help increase local drive tourism.

“Bacchus Marsh is one of Victoria's older towns and the restoration of the avenue will enhance its tourism appeal.

"Every year, the Ballarat region attracts 1.2 million day trips, 613,000 overnight trips and 25,200 international visitors. Tourism expenditure of $335 million helps drives the local economy and boosts employment," the Minister said.

"The funding for Creswick will enable the construction of an interpretive centre which will incorporate the current information centre, public conveniences, and a meeting space.

"The interpretive centre will focus on the town's timber history and enable the town of Creswick to better capture tourism business."

Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said: “Creswick has been blessed with stunning natural surroundings which have made it an increasingly popular tourist destination".

"The centre will showcase local products such as bed and breakfast, cafes, the museum and local scenic and historic attractions.

"This funding really demonstrates the Government's commitment to the Ballarat district with a total commitment of $950,000 for tourism projects.

"Each of these projects enjoy strong support from local business keen to increase tourism to this region and the funding of both of these projects has been long-overdue."
