Mr Snowdon said the funding announcement by the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, highlighted the Government’s commitment to assisting people under financial pressure. “Funding has been allocated to Tangentyere Council to continue their activities. “They offer assistance and education in credit and debt issues, provide banking advice and act as an advocate. “Commonwealth Financial Counselling organisations provide free services to people who are experiencing personal financial difficulties,” Mr Snowdon said. “This can include cost of living increases, unemployment, sickness and family breakdown, all of which can put huge pressure on families and their finances. “It is so important for people experiencing personal financial difficulties to seek expert advice at an early stage. “Financial counselling can help them overcome their monetary problems and give them the capacity to avoid getting into difficulties again. “Tangentyere Council has been offering financial counselling since 1995 and have a lot of experience and can also connect people with other support services in the region,” Mr Snowdon said.
