Cobb calls for a united community approach to Bells Line Expressway

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Federal Member for Calare, John Cobb, today said that attendance at the RTA Bells Line of Road Discussion Forum’s being held in Orange and Lithgow this week would be essential in getting the Bells Line Expressway put back on the agenda.

“This is an opportunity for the people of Calare and Western NSW to have their say and show their support for a Bells Line Expressway,” Mr Cobb said.

“As only two meetings will be held west of the mountains, we need strong representation to show the RTA how much the people of Western NSW need and deserve this expressway.

“We know that a Bells Line Expressway is key to opening up the whole of Western NSW, we know a safe and efficient corridor over the mountains is long over due and we know that this development is crucial to the long term prosperity of the entire region.

“All we continue to see from both State and Federal Labor Government is contempt for regional NSW, we need to band together and continue our fight to get a decent track over the mountains.

“The fact that only two meetings will be held in Western NSW is quite frankly an insult. These are the communities that are set to benefit the most from this development and their voices deserve to be heard as well.

“I urge the people of Calare to rally together and attend these community forums. We need to be vocal in our stance and we need to send to send a clear message to the State Government that we need this vital transport corridor now.”

Two meetings will be held in the Calare electorate this week:

Orange: Tuesday 23rd November Senior Citizens & Pensioners Centre, 77 Kite St 2pm - 4pm and 5pm - 7pm

Lithgow: Wednesday 24th November Workmans Club, Tuscan Room 3, Tank St 2pm - 4pm and 5pm - 7pm
