Floods in Queensland

January 11, 2011 15:53

Senator Joyce said today that his thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost family members in the horrific floods that have inundated Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley region. We pray for all those who are missing to be quickly found and safe.

To say that the floods are awesome is to endow it with a grace that it does not deserve. The floods were horrific. One has to remind themselves that this is happening in our nation, and in fact, our State. Nothing could prepare you for a flood of this severity and speed in this location. These floods will leave an indelible mark on the people of Toowoomba and the Lockyer valley.

What we can be assured of is the resolute desire to help and this assistance will continue long after the flood abates. What you can be assured of is that all will be totally focused on trying to return peoples lives as quickly as possible to a state of balance, whilst noting the trauma many will be suffering.

Our concerns are now also with the people of Brisbane and Ipswich and once more for Condamine, Warwick, Dalby and surrounding areas. These floods now come on top of other flood peaks currently in the saturated river systems of Southern Queensland.
