REMEMBRANCE DAY

Today at the 11th hour Australians observe one minute’s silence in memory of those who have died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

This year marks the 98th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War.

On Remembrance Day we pause to commemorate over a century of service, encompassing all wars, conflicts and peace operations in which Australia has been involved.

We pause for those who were killed in battle, for those who tried to make peace, for those who gave up their lives to save others, for those who put their lives on hold to serve their country and the families who were left behind; we pause to remember all of them.

We honour all those who served and we remember all those who died.

As we continue to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac, we also recognise the significant anniversary of 100 years since the Battle of Pozieres and Fromelles.

This year we also recognise 50 years since the Vietnam War’s Battle of Long Tan.

It is important we remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our country; their name liveth for evermore.
