Winners recognised at national disability awards

Labor congratulates the winners and finalists honoured at the National Disability Awards at Parliament House in Canberra last night.

The awards are held every year in the lead up to International Day of People with Disability on 3, December 2016.

The contribution by all finalists was outstanding.

The winners included Maurice Corcoran AM from Largs Bay, South Australia who has been a tireless advocate for people with disability for more than 30 years.

Mr Corcoran led the campaign for accessible public transport in Australia for people with disability.

He has worked both as a senior policy adviser and a volunteer to improve the quality of life and access for people living with disability.

It was also especially pleasing to see local councils recognised for leading the way in delivering accessible and inclusive practices and encouraging supportive and inclusive communities.
