15,000 More Young Australians Connected with Jobs

More than 15,000 young Australians have been connected with jobs as a result of the Government’s Keep Australia Working Jobs and Skills Expos.

Opening the 38th Jobs Expo in Taree, Parliamentary Secretary for School Education and Workplace Relations Jacinta Collins urged more than 1000 job seekers to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with a range of employers in the one location.

“What the Gillard Government wants is more jobs for more Australians, and that is what these Expos are about,” Senator Collins said.

“The Government’s Keep Australia Working strategy continues to connect local youth in regions of high unemployment with local employers and training providers.”

Yesterday’s Expo had more than 300 jobs and apprenticeships on offer for youth in Taree and the local area.

“By the end of the expo we passed the 15,000 figure, which is a tremendous achievement,” Senator Collins said.

Since October last year, 38 Jobs and Skills Expos have now been held across Australia in regions with high youth unemployment, and now more than 15,000 Australians have been connected with jobs as a result.

“The benefits of having a job are enormous. These Jobs Expos really are a great, practical way of connecting people in the local communities with jobs.”
