ROYAL COMMISSION HOLDS NT DIALOGUE AHEAD OF DIRECTIONS HEARING

19 August 2016

The Royal Commission into the Detention of Children in the Northern Territory has conducted stakeholder meetings this week across the Northern Territory ahead of the first directions hearing on 6 September 2016.

This visit to the Northern Territory was an important opportunity for the Commissioners to provide an overview of the Royal Commission procedures and processes to key stakeholders, including peak Aboriginal organisations, legal assistance providers, relevant unions and the Northern Territory Government.

The visit also allowed stakeholders to express concerns and comments directly to the Commissioners and to be heard.

The Commissioners took the opportunity to visit the former youth detention centre in Alice Springs, Aranda House.

The directions hearing on 6 September will be conducted by Commissioner White AO and Commissioner Gooda.

Further information about the directions hearing will be available on our website.
