BIGGER, BETTER BEEF WEEK COMING UNDER COALITION

A re-elected Coalition Government will deliver a $1 million boost to Casino Beef Week to ensure the event continues to flourish and grow into the future.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources and Leader of The Nationals Barnaby Joyce made the announcement alongside Member for Page Kevin Hogan.

Mr Joyce said supporting the annual event over the next four years would help generate millions of dollars for the local economy and others throughout northern New South Wales.

“The Northern Co-Operative Meat Company Casino Beef Week has become a real institution over the past 33 years and its continuing success pays big dividends for the agricultural sector and the broader regional economy,” Mr Joyce said.

“The Week provides a direct boost to the tourism and hospitality sectors of northern New South Wales, bringing tens of thousands of people to enjoy all that Casino and the wider region has to offer.

“The spinoff from that is an injection of millions of dollars into the region’s economy every year, sustaining and creating local jobs and supporting local businesses.

“By showcasing hundreds of agriculture-related businesses, Beef Week is a shopfront for the nation’s best and most innovative agribusinesses, and a very successful way of promoting the bounty and potential of northern New South Wales.”

Member for Page Kevin Hogan said the Coalition’s support was great news for the local community and wider Northern Rivers region.

“We all know that Casino is the Beef Capital of Australia and this funding will mean Beef Week will continue in all its glory for many years to come and inject millions into our local economy,” Mr Hogan said.

“From local farmers to the saleyard to the meatworks, the beef industry is the livelihood of countless families and small businesses in our community. What better way to celebrate the industry than a bigger and better Beef Week.”

Mr Joyce said events such as the Casino Beef Week and Norco-Primex field days currently underway demonstrate the important but often under-appreciated role our agricultural industries play in bringing Australia closer to the world.

“In 2013-14 Australia exported around 1.2 million tonnes of beef product, valued at $6.2 billion. In that same year we exported 1.13 million head of live cattle, valued at $1 billion,” he said.

“By providing quality protein for people across the world we promote trade and greater understanding and fellowship between nations

“Today’s contribution to the future success of Beef Week is a sign of the Coalition’s commitment to supporting not just the event and Australia’s beef industry, but also the people and families whose hard work has built the success of the sector.”
