LABOR WILL PROVIDE OVERDUE RELIEF FOR TESTERS HOLLOW

A Shorten Labor Government will provide much needed infrastructure relief for Maitland residents and stop the flooding at Testers Hollow.

Flooding at the site has been an ongoing problem for locals, isolating entire communities because of a lack of practical infrastructure.

Labor will commit up to $10 million to raise Cessnock Road at Testers Hollow to ensure this vital road between Maitland and Kurri Kurri is no longer flood prone.

Labor will work with the State and Local Governments to identify the best solution and obtain additional funding for the critical works.

This infrastructure upgrade is essential to maintain access for local residents and visitors to the Hunter region during the floods.

With significant growth in new houses expected in the area in coming years, a permanent solution is long overdue.

In 2015, floods isolated the residents of Gillieston Heights for more than six days. Local residents know better than anyone the importance of addressing this problem.

The Coalition have had almost three years to address the flooding at Testers Hollow. Local residents deserve better than inaction and passing the buck.

Labor will act because we know the Hunter region has waited long enough for this issue to be addressed.

Labor is committed to investing in public infrastructure because we know it is critical to growing our regions. Today’s announcement continues our commitment.
