COALITION COMPLETES BUNDABERG SURF CLUB UPGRADE

Surfers and other beach-goers in Bundaberg will benefit from enhancements to the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Clubhouse which officially opened today, better equipping the organisation to continue providing its vital rescue services.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Coalition Government had provided $400,000 towards the upgrade through the Community Development Grants Programme.

“The Community Development Grants Programme is providing almost $350 million for long-term improvements in social and economic infrastructure for communities across Australia,” Minister Nash said.

“By enhancing the social and economic wellbeing of communities and creating jobs during construction, the programme is benefiting regional communities like Bundaberg now and into the future.”

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club had been planning a major upgrade for over a decade.

“Some of the old club buildings have been demolished to make way for a more user friendly club for members,” Mr Pitt said.

“The upgrade includes new training rooms, a modern first-aid facility, storage for rescue equipment, a lookout viewing room and a much needed upgrade to the amenities.”

Mr Pitt said Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club was a long-standing contributor to the Bargara community, ensuring safe swimming at Neilson Park Beach for over 90 years.

“The club has a thriving Nippers cohort, who will reap some of the benefits of this redevelopment, particularly the improved training facilities,” Mr Pitt said.

The Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Clubhouse Extension project was jointly funded with $400,000 contributed by the Australian Government, $500,000 by the Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club and $115,000 by the Queensland Government.
